Special Event: Robert Kelly and Guests
Dates: 03-27-2015 - 03-28-2015

Robert Kelly has overcome many hardships in his life, all of which have made him the actor/comedian he is today. From his early days as a kid growing up in Boston, in and out of Juvenile Hall, Kelly's unique, honest take on his own life and relationships make his comedy clever, abrasive, funny, but refreshingly vulnerable.

His extensive TV comedy credits include a Comedy Central Presents, HBO's Tourgasm, and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. Kelly's acting credits also include portraying Louie CK's brother on Louie, appearing as a detective opposite Vincent D'Onofrio on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and a guest starring role on ABC's The Job with Denis Leary.

His feature credits include Ghost Town, What Doesn't Kill You, Children of Invention, Bachelor No. 2 and Good Luck Chuck. He also just finished producing and starring in his first short film, Cheat, which premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

COME OUT FOR A GREAT EVENING OF COMEDY FOR A CAUSE TO BENEFIT - OPERATION SMILE

Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. A child with a cleft has twice the odds of dying before their first birthday. Children with cleft conditions who survive may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford the surgeries they need to live a productive life.

Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that performs safe, effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and delivers postoperative and ongoing medical therapies to children in low and middle income countries.

Every child deserves access to safe, quality surgical care.

Comedian, columnist Kevin Downey, Jr. has been recently labeled, “refreshingly bizarre” by fellow comedian Joe Mulligan. Kevin headlined small rooms all over the U.S. and enjoyed a “cult” following, (that means only 28 people dug him), until his frequent and on-going bookings at the Comedy Stop at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, which has brought him to a new level of notoriety. Kevin now works “A” clubs everywhere, and to larger and larger audiences. The Early Years- Whereas most comedians will lie about where they grew up in an effort to gain, “street creds”, comedian, columnist and all around swell guy Kevin Downey, Jr. actually did grow up in Detroit MI. He made his TV debut at age 6 on CKLW’s, “The Bozo Show” where he won a hockey stick, a 12-pack of Orange Crush and some Tootsie Rolls playing, “The Bug Game”. Like all kids in Detroit Kevin attempted to play ice hockey, but his first and only season was cut short when the coach realized Kevin was too small to skate while wearing all the gear, thus clearing the way for Wayne Gretzky to top Gordie Howe’s achievements. Bright Lights burnin' Gonna set your Soul on Fire- Kevin moved to New York City looking for fame and fortune. He instantly landed a, “part” at Macy’s Santa land as an elf, (some call it the longest running show on Broadway). Kevin was decimated to learn all elves were fired after the Christmas Eve shift. Shortly thereafter Kevin went to his first comedy show at New York’s Comic Strip Live and realized his calling, though it would be three years until he had the stones to get on stage himself. Money for nothing and your chicks for free Today Kevin is headlining clubs everywhere in the U.S. He can be heard on The Bob and Tom Show, Sirius and XM Satellite radio regularly. He’s been on Comedy Central, What Not to Wear, and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy where he got a much needed haircut. Kevin appears at the Comedy Stop at the Trop in Las Vegas at least four times per year. He has an ever-growing fan base that comes to see him again and again. He writes a column called, “Drinking on $11 a Night”, which can be read in Bachelor Pad Magazine, GC magazine, at usedwigs.com and drinkingon11.com. Kevin’s song, “Secret Garden of Dirty Little Whores, (who think they’re better than me)”, can be heard on college and traditional radio stations throughout the country. He has a nationally released DVD called, "I'm not Gay, but Dont Stop" which can be found on Amazon and Netflix Kevin is not related to Robert Downey, Jr.

ABOUT THE ERICK R. JAMES SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD

Erick Randall James graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1999 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey Team for all four years at Rensselaer, and after graduating he attended Cambridge University in England, where he earned a graduate degree in Management Studies. While studying at Cambridge, Erick continued to play ice hockey; a sport which he adored his entire life.

Erick had many talents: he was the co-author of four books with business partner and close friend, Judith Barnes, Ph.D.’84. He was a stand-up comic and magician, traveling throughout the United States opening for some of the biggest names in comedy and performing magic for children.

Most importantly, Erick was an exceptional person: kind, always ready to help, patient, and empathetic. Erick died on November 5, 2014 at age thirty-seven, succumbing to the effects of a near-fatal car accident. At the time of his death, Erick was working in the Executive Chamber of the State of New York directing lean process engineering workshops and giving seminars on innovation. Prior to that, he worked at The Center for Economic Growth in Albany, Eureka Ranch in Ohio, and Clever Fellows Innovation Consortium in Troy.

The Erick R. James ’99 Scholar Athlete Award was established in 2015 by Erick’s friends, colleagues, and family to honor his memory and spirit, and to reward high-achieving Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey players at Rensselaer in the hopes that the winners will strive to achieve their personal best in the sport and in their professional lives.

Carmen Lynch is the offspring of a petite Spanish nurse and a tall American Naval officer. She was born in California -- the town where Clint Eastwood was mayor -- and soon after moved to Spain to begin her performance career as a flamenco dancer (it sounds like a joke but she's got pictures to prove it).

After graduating from The College of William & Mary with a degree in psychology, Carmen applied to the FBI but failed the psychology portion of the exam. So naturally, she moved to NY to pursue acting. Not realizing she'd moved to the mecca of stand-up comedy, Carmen eventually tried it out and fell in love -- or something.

Carmen made her network debut as one of the top 20 comics on the first season of "Last Comic Standing" on NBC. She's also performed on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and was featured on HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. She's also done a lot of Spanish shows including SiTV's "Latino Laugh Festival" and toured as one of the Latinas of Comedy with Paul Rodriguez. As a prolific writer, she's also freelanced with MAD Magazine. Catch her on this season of "Last Comic Standing."

Warren has a style that purposely avoids using the "white vs. black" angle that has become all too popular with many mainstream black comics. Daring to be different Warren chooses to focus on FUNNY! You have SEEN Warren in commercials, and on the talk show "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen", (If you didn't blink you also saw him on Last Comic Standing)!! You have HEARD Warren on Siruis XM radio and the syndicated "The Bob and Tom Morning Show". Extreme like-ability and being able to write material for all ages is the winning combination of this Chicago based comedian. Most recently Warren won the San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival.

Carole Montgomery has spent the better part of the past decade overseas entertaining our troops as everyone's "National Mom".  With over 2 dozen television credits to her name, CAROLE MONTGOMERY is a respected veteran of the standup comedy scene nationwide.

In addition to her numerous tv appearances, CAROLE has headlined clubs & colleges across the USA and starred in 2 different Las Vegas production shows. In her ten years as a LAS VEGAS STAR, it is estimated that she has been seen by over 5 million audience members. Besides being a comedian and writer, Carole is a wife and mother. Perhaps best known as the comedian who puts the cerebral in Cerebral Palsy, Josh Blue centers much of his self-deprecating act around his disability. He exploded onto the national comedy scene by capturing the attention and endearment of the country as the winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.  Having already established himself as one of the most sought after comedians on the college circuit, his weekly appearances on Last Comic in the summer of 2006 expanded his fan base exponentially.  Josh starred in Comedy Central Presents: Josh Blue, which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike and was named the 11th best special on the network in 2011.  Most recently, Josh debuted a one-hour Showtime special, Sticky Changewhere he cracks jokes and tells stories about everything from being a white African-American, to dealing with cabbies who think he'll pay in sticky change.  The special is currently available on Netflix.  He has appeared twice on Ron White’s Comedy Salute to the Troops on CMT and recently made his late night television debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Possessed with an undeniable likeability and comedic timing that belies his youthfulness; Josh continues to break down stereotypes of people with disabilities one laugh at a time.  His stand-up routine is in a constant state of evolution and his off-the-cuff improvisational skills guarantee that no two shows are exactly alike.

Josh has appeared as a regular guest star on Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia and his story has been featured on Fox, CBS, ABC, and MSNBC.  He was the first comedian to perform stand-up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was named Best Winning Reality Show Guest for his appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly, and made a standout guest appearance on Comics Unleashed.  He became the first comic to debut a stand-up special on the big screen when 7 More Days in the Tank was shown in theatres across the country.  Blue is set to appear in the sports based comedy 108 Stitches.  Portions of the performance also aired on Bravo Network as a half-hour comedy special.  Josh is a repeat guest on such nationally syndicated radio programs as NPR’s Talk of the Nation and The Mancow Show and has been featured in numerous print publications including People Magazine and The New York Times.  Josh has also performed at the prestigious HBO-Aspen Comedy Festival, Comedy Central’s South Beach Comedy Festival, and The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas.  Josh has even become quite an Internet sensation with his top two YouTubevideos over 3.5 million plays.

His stand-up routine is in a constant state of evolution and his off-the-cuff improvisational skills guarantee that no two shows are exactly alike.  Josh was also a member of the US Paralympic Soccer Team and competed in Athens at the Paralympic Games, the world’s second largest sporting event.  Josh resides in Denver with his wife, Yuko, their son, Simon, and daughter, Seika.

Stand-up comic, actor, writer, director Pauly Shore tasted super-stardom in 1990 when his precedent-setting MTV show "Totally Pauly" hit the airwaves to major fan approval. The show ran for six years, leading him to television and film roles. In 1993, he wrote and starred in a one-hour HBO television special, Pauly Does Dallas, which drew in even more loyal fans.

He had roles in films from 1988, providing supporting comedy relief, but it was the wildly popular Encino Man (1992), partnered with Sean Astin and Brendan Fraser, that put Pauly on the map. Films followed, including Son in Law (1993), In the Army Now (1994), Jury Duty (1995), Bio-Dome (1996) and The Curse of Inferno (1997). He provided voices in animated features such as Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997) and The Goofy Movie Franchise (1995/2000).

His first album, "The Future of America," was named Best Comedy Album by the college music journalists in 1991, while the National Association of Record Merchandisers nominated his second album, "Scraps from the Future," for a Best Sellers Award.

Pauly has made several appearances in recent years as a recurring guest on Howard Stern's late-night show, as well as David Letterman's talk show. He tours the country with his stand-up comedy act.

In 2003, Shore produced, wrote, directed and starred in Pauly Shore Is Dead, a semi-autobiographical mockumentary, and in 2005 starred in the reality television series Minding the Store. His production company, Landing Patch Productions, has produced multiple films and specials: Natural Born Komics (2007), Adopted (2009), Vegas Is My Oyster (2011), and Pauly~tics (2012).

Currently, Pauly is working on Pauly Shore Stands Alone, a true-life road documentary that follows him as he performs in obscure towns throughout Wisconsin while dealing with his personal life back home. Pauly is also debuting a podcast series later this year: Pauly Shore’s Interested. In it, he interviews Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock, Whitney Cummings, Former RNC Chair Michael Steele, Dodger’s pitcher Brian Wilson, and many many more.
